In the state of Massachusetts. Ruby Rossi, a high school senior who is the only hearing member of her family, has a lot on her plate. As a teenager, it might be difficult to balance the demands of her father's fishing boat with her education, social life, and family's expectations. Do Ruby's parents know she enjoys singing? It all begins with Ruby signing up for the school choir, and the brilliant young girl soon finds herself in a quandary: should she pursue her aspirations, or should she remain a proud member of her family?
